Blazer5 Sweeps Doubleheader Week Again

Blazer5 Gaming extended its winning streak Friday with a 59-51 victory over Cavs Legion GC.

Cavs Legion is falling in spectacular fashion, dropping three straight games and sliding down the rankings to 2-3. Things were looking good early on as the Cavs jumped out to an early lead behind a 15-7 first quarter, in large part thanks to a pair of Strainer threes. In addition, the Cavs’ defensive rotations were on point early on, preventing Mama Im Dat Man from getting into an early rhythm. Unfortunately, there was no way to stop reigning MVP OneWildWalnut from dominating the paint. OneWildWalnut was a beast, outrebounding the entire Cavs team 21-11 while scoring 22 for a rare 20/20 double-double.

Once Mama Im Dat Man found his rhythm late in the game, Cavs simply couldn’t hold onto the lead. Even though Mama Im Dat Man coughed up the ball eight times, his 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc, was more than enough to put the game out of reach. A couple of Cavs managed to break into double digits, led by Sick x 973’s 14, but the Legion simply ran out of gas in the fourth. With nothing left in the tank the Cavs got outscored 19-7 in the fourth quarter. It’s rare to see a simultaneous choke and blowout, yet here we are. As the Blazer5 win streak extends to three games, it looks like the best team in last year’s regular season will be just as lethal this year.

Then, Blazer5 topped NetsGC by a score of 66-52. This marks the second win of the week for the Blazers, who defeated Cavs Legion GC 59-51 earlier in the night. The Nets dropped to 0-2 in Week 3, with their other loss coming against Raptors Uprising GC on Thursday night.

The matchup started with a pair of dunks on both ends of the court, with each coming off of offensive rebounds. The Blazers would then go on a 5-0 run before NetsGC drained a trey to cut the first-quarter deficit to two points. It was bad shot after bad shot for the Nets, who turned the ball over four times in the first quarter and jacked up a number of tightly-contested shots from beyond the arc. Blazer5 Gaming held a 23-21 lead after one period of play.

The Blazers opened up the second stanza with a 7-3 run, building up to a 30-24 lead with just over three minutes left in the first half. Their defense was the clear difference in the early going, as they took advantage of the Nets’ turnovers on the other end of the court. At the end of the half, Blazer5 Gaming had a 38-33 lead. They were unsurprisingly led by Mama Im Dat Man, who finished the half with 14 points on six-of-10 shooting from the field. KinG PeroXide also had a solid first half, tallying 13 points. NetsGC was led on the offensive end by Lav with 15 points on six-of-nine from the field (three-of-five from three).

The Nets opened the second half strong and tied the contest at 38, but a few quick turnovers by the Nets and impressive shooting by the Blazers quickly brought the lead back up to five points. It was a high-scoring affair heading into the final six minutes, with the Blazers on top by a score of 56-51. Both teams made a push in the fourth quarter, but it was Blazer5 Gaming who hit a three with 20 seconds left to seal the deal.

The Blazers had three players finish in double figures in the scoring column, as Mama Im Dat Man (24), Lavishphenom (20) and KinG PeroXide (17) all put together impressive performances. NetsGC put up a tough fight with the help of Wavy.zay (17 points, 10 assists) and Lav (18 points, four boards and four assists), but it wasn’t enough to get the job done.
